Welcome to CrtUsedMonitors.Com. Please contact us to recycle CRT monitors.

We are a global recycler of used computer monitors. We receive

thousands of CRT monitors each month from Fortune 500 companies, schools, corporations, and government institutions.

Why use Crtusedmonitors.com for the disposal of your monitors?

As a pioneer in the recycling and reclamation of CRTs, our company can save you the expense and worry of a "Green Audit." If you wait for someone to come knocking at your door with a complaint, it may be too late to avoid costly fines and drastically change the way you dispose of equipment. We are a recycling company dedicated to meeting the environmental challenges of the future with a world-class organization. We provide recycling services to manufacturers, developers, governments & financial institutions.

Over 400,000 pounds of computer monitors are dumped at our facility each month. We salvage circuit boards, print heads, semiconductors, and other valuable scrap metals, and reclaim precious and semi-precious materials. We also ship used monitors (working, untested, non-working) to many parts of the world where they are recycled for their parts or repaired at a fraction of the labor costs found in the US and Canada, where such methods are generally expensive.

What is a Cathode Ray Tube?

A Cathode Ray Tube, abbreviated “CRT”, is the main component in a television and computer monitors display unit. The CRT is a specialized vacuum tube in which images are produced when an electron beam strikes a phosphorescent surface. Phosphor screens using multiple beams of electrons have allowed CRTs to display millions of colors.  The CRT appears in the unit as a funnel-shaped, leaded glass tube with a metal frame inside. CRT’s may contain several pounds of lead, which is a toxic substance.

Why is there a need to recycle computer monitors?

While the rapid advances in technology have raised productivity to an all-time high, the life cycle of used computer monitors has dwindled down to about three years. Sooner or later your "obsolete" computer monitor ends up as high-tech trash - a permanent rest on the information super highway. Each year, over 5 million monitors are being added to a landfill.

But the story does not end there - and neither does your liability. For example, the cathode ray tubes (CRT's) in your discarded computer monitors contain traces of phosphorus, cadmium and 6-8 lbs of LEAD. These hazardous materials are sealed to protect users, but they will leach out into a landfill once the CRT is broken-and eventually find their way into the public water supply. Also, when the glass is crushed in a trash-compacting facility, the lead bearing particles become an airborne hazard. That's why since 1992, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) closely monitors CRT disposal methods. In 1993, the EPA began targeting companies that dispose of CRTs through landfills or incineration. Additionally, many state and local regulatory agencies are now monitoring the disposal of CRTs and other computer equipment.

LCD or CRT?

Currently CRT technology is being phased out replaced with the LCDs, and  we are witnessing a steady increase in the availability of this product on the market. However, CRTs possess an equal if not superior picture quality when compared to the LCD, but at only a fraction of the price, especially when they are purchased used.

Computer Monitor Recycling Tips:

  1. Donate Your Equipment: If your organization wants to remove a working monitor, or a whole computer unit (that's not too old, usually a 486 or higher), you may be able donate it. By donating your equipment you can avoid disposal fees and may receive a tax break. More so, you will be helping people or organizations who could really use your old equipment.

  2. Recycle Whole Computer Units that Cannot be Donated: If your organization has a whole computer unit(s) to dispose, there are more computer/electronic recycling/ reuse services available than CRT recycling services.

  3. Computer Monitors Only: If you have a monitor(s), without the accompanying computer components, or a television set(s) to recycle, then consult the net. Be prepared to pay a fee. Depending on quantity, costs can range from $3.00 to $35.00 per monitor or television plus a possible transportation charge for "pick-ups".

    A)
Drop Off CRTs at a Recycling Facility: If your organization is located close enough
to a CRT recycling/reuse facility,"dropping-off" the CRTs at the facility is likely to be
the cheapest option. Avoiding the hauling fee can bring your disposal expenses
         down.
    B)
Have the CRTs Picked Up: Due to high volumes of CRTs, or an inconvenient
distance from a recycling facility, "dropping-off" may not be an option. In this case,
haulers will remove the material away from your location. Be prepared to pay an
additional transportation charge for this service.

If you go this route, formulate a cost effective way to dispose of your CRTs.
Many times having a hauler "pick-up" one or two CRT units can be very expensive
due to the hauling fee. If possible, store your unwanted CRTs until you have a cost-
effective amount to be removed. Also, many recyclers prefer to remove only large
          quantities.

    C)
Recycle by Mail: If your organization is located a great distance away from CRT
haulers in the state, there are services that take CRTs in the mail. Don't be
discouraged by mail-in services.  Depending on the quantity of your units, you may
find that it is cost comparative to your other options.
